Aloisi told au.fourfourtwo.com that he believes there is a niche in the market for a quality football at grassroots level.

"My kids have started playing and the ball they've been given isn't really that good," he said.

"So I want to make something that has a real quality covering, well stitched, that'll stand up over time and won't go out of shape easily.

"We'd like to start in South Australia with the district association clubs and perhaps expand into the rest of Australia."

Aloisi says he's expecting samples of the balls in about eight weeks' time.

He hopes the distinctive Aloisi logo with the orange band will make the ball a popular new addition to football at grounds around the country.

And Aloisi, 35, wants to add sports clothing to his new business venture.

Ultimately he wants teams to play in his company's shirts while kicking his brand of footballs.

The former Reds and Wellington Phoenix skipper, capped five times by the green and gold, retired from football last season following a debilitating back injury.

He now works for Fox Sports as a presenter on their football broadcasts.
