With a ravaged squad to choose from for the round 13 clash against the Central Coast Mariners at Members Equity Stadium, they have called up former defender Ante Kovacevic and midfielder Mark Lee to return to the big stage.

Coach Dave Mitchell has turned to the pair to help ease Glory’s selection headache after national team duty, injury and suspension left the club with just 11 outfield players and one goal keeper for Sunday night’s match.

Kovacevic is an uncompromising defender who has vast experience in a career spanning 13 years and 274 matches in both the NSL and Hyundai A-League.

After completing last season with the Glory he enjoyed and outstanding campaign in the Football West Premier League during Floreat Athena’s unbeaten run to the championship.

“Ante will add some experience in our defence, particularly if Jamie Harnwell plays forward, and he can marshal the troops against the dangerous attacking line-up of Central Coast,” Mitchell said.

Lee is also a standout in the local competition and played the last six matches of the 2006/07 Hyundai A-League season with Perth as an injury replacement player.

The ECU Joondalup midfielder was the 2005 Football West State League player of the Year and developed his game in England with Premier League heavyweights Middlesbrough and Chelsea.

“Mark is a hard worker and enjoyed another good season in the local league,” said Mitchell.

"He will be an easy fit into the squad which is critical in achieving that understanding with his team mates on the pitch at short notice."

Perth invited several local players to train with the squad this week and Mitchell said he was extremely impressed with their performances.

“I have made an effort to watch premier league games at every chance I get and there are some very good players coming through that I’m sure will make the step to the Glory in the future," he said.

“Our current situation has given these lads an opportunity and I’m confident that if called upon to play in the A-League they’ll perform well.”

Goalkeeper Danny Milosevic has also been added to the squad as a short term replacement, the third time he has filled the role for the Glory this season.
