Aurelio Vidmar and Ricki Herbert were donning their tracksuits and getting ready to check out their respective squads on the training track.

This is the first chance to spot if anyone has enjoyed a few too many off season beers and meat pies - an unlikely scenario in this day and age.

Adelaide's squad was due to assemble for their first session today with the first of two fitness-testing sessions.

It will be a first chance for new boys Michael Marrone (Adelaide United National Youth League Squad) Adam Hughes (Drogheda United, Ireland) and Iain Fyfe (Sydney FC) to make good impressions.

Thursday and Saturday will see further training sessions with a weights session pencilled in for Friday.

As for Phoenix, they are happy to let the public see their players being put through their paces - including new boy Diego - with a series of sessions being hosted by local clubs over the next week or so.

Diego is the only confirmed signing so far but there may be others soon to follow. Coach Herbert told The Press: "There's a strong possibility a minimum of one will be signed from our recent trip to England. That could happen in the next 10 days.

"We're hopeful of getting two, but one's more across the line than the other at this point. We are targeting two strikers. That's the club's number one priority."

Of the other A-League clubs, Gold Coast United, North Queensland Fury and Queensland Roar are also back in training after a break.
