BRISBANE Roar striker Besart Berisha has been given a one match ban with one match suspended by the FFA in the aftermath of the post-match fracas with Sydney FC's Pascal Bosschaart.
The club and player were given until today to defend themselves to the FFA for the ugly scenes where Berisha taunted Bosschaart and apparently challenged him to a fight in the tunnel.
The confrontation sparked dramatic scenes as players and officials got involved but no punches were actually thrown as the two sides traded insults.
Tonight the FFA ruled Besart would miss one match under the ban and would miss another if he offends again.
Besart could be free to play this weekend against title contenders Melbourne Heart if Roar decide to appeal the decision, with the appeal being heard next week.
If upheld, he would then miss the game against Newcastle Jets.
An FFA statement added: "The player has been found to be in breach of the following provisions of the code;
- Clause 2.2(c): ”offensive behavior, including offensive, obscene, provocative or insulting gestures, language or chanting;”
- Clause 2.2(d): ”provocation or incitement of hatred or violence;”
- Clause 6.1(a), “… a Professional Player must … at all times behave in a manner that promotes and upholds the highest standards of integrity, dignity and professionalism.”
"FFA has determined a one match suspension plus a one match suspended sanction.
"This one match suspended sanction shall only be triggered in the event that the player is found to have committed a further breach of the code prior to the end of the A-League season, including finals.
"The club has seven business days to lodge an appeal."
