OUSTED Sydney FC director Peter Turnbull wants to set up a second A-League club to rival his old team in the Harbour City.
"I was the founder of Sydney FC, make no mistake about that, and I am pleased and proud to have been involved in the establishment of the club, and the A-League," property developer Turnbull revealed.
"But I've always believed western Sydney has been crying out for a team of its own, because, to be honest, it's been largely ignored.
"Western Sydney is the home of football, it's produced more Socceroos than anywhere else in Australia, there is a real marketplace for the game out here."
Turnbull believes Sydney could easily support a cross-city rival.
"They could alleviate themselves of the responsibility of dealing with western Sydney," he said.
"They could be guaranteed four capacity crowds every season, and it would also mean Sydney would have an A-League match every weekend.
"Sydney is Australia's biggest city, and it's got better numbers and better potential than most of the other areas bidding to join the league."
