Sydney FC’s marquee man will be handed a starting slot at Hindmarsh Stadium and once in, he is no mood to drop out again.

The striker has been doing a lot of extra work at the club to top up his conditioning and now he’s hungry for action.

Speaking after training today, Aloisi said: “I’ve been looking forward to it, I’ve been training really hard this last few weeks and I’m ready to start.”

Aloisi said he backed coach John Kosmina's decision to leave him on the bench recently but said he was focussed now on keeping his starting berth.

“That’s Kossie’s decision, of course." he said. "I’m a player and you respect the decision of the coach.

“Of course I wasn’t happy because as a player you always want to start games, play and play well.

“I’ve worked hard to get my spot back and hopefully I’ll keep it now and score a lot of goals to the end of the season.

“We’ve got a lot of good players out there and we want to put it together now, start winning games on a regular basis.”

Adelaide United have struggled for results at home and abroad in the last few weeks but Aloisi doesn’t expect a weary home side to line up.

He said: “I still think Adelaide are a top side. They might be a little flat from all the travelling and all the games they’ve played but I think tomorrow they won’t be flat.

"No-one’s ever flat against Sydney FC anyway. It’s always a difficult game and it’s going to be no different tomorrow.”

Aloisi said Adelaide’s performances in Asia raised the issue of squad sizes and the need for an increase - something the FFA is believed to be looking at.

He said: “To be honest I like playing Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday. You get a good match rhythm going and if you’re winning games your confidence is really high.

“I think they need to make it that you need a bigger squad because Adelaide struggled in (the ACL) final because they only had I think 13 fit players.

“In Europe a lot of the time it’s at least a squad of 30 and you actually end up using all those players.

"Whether they’re going to bring that in in Australia, it’s a bit difficult because of the money and the salary cap. That’s for the FFA to decide, not me.

“I’m sure FFA are doing their homework on it along with the PFA.”

A return to Adelaide means a chance to catch up with brother Ross and family.

He joked: “Lucky he’s not commentating tomorrow otherwise he would savage me.

"He’ll be there along with a lot of other family and friends. If any of the Adelaide supporters give me stick there might be a bit of trouble in the stand, nah, only joking.”

Coach Kosmina is expecting Aloisi to embrace the occasion.

He said: “Johhny’s been able to do some extra work in the week to catch up on the stuff he missed out in pre-season. Now he’s in much better nick.

“Johnny’s a big game player as well. What better place to showcase his skills than in his home city where it all started?”
