This week will be crucial for three local trial players as they look to make a final bid to impress boss Frank Farina at Queensland Roar.
The A-League club has lined up a friendly with Queensland state league side Palm Beach on Wednesday night with a view to seeing if youngsters Michael Zullo, Mitch Nichols and Kieran Gonzalez can cut it in the A-League.
Insiders say Palm Beach’s Nichols is a “surfie dude with attitude and an attacking wide midfielder who looks very, very sharp. You want attitude with your players.”
Another hoping to impress is Brisbane Strikers’ Michael Zullo. The nippy 18-year-old winger – recently named by FourFourTwo magazine as one of the ten best players outside the A-League – has represented Australia at U/17 level and is widely considered one of the best young players in the Qld state league.
Keeper Kieran Gonzalez, a 192cm glovesman, has been on trial with Roar over the last few weeks and hopes to secure a contract as one of the keepers behind Liam Reddy.
Meanwhile, the on-going talk about Craig Moore joining the club has not progressed any further with insiders telling au.fourfourtwo.com the last communication they had with the Socceroo defender was three weeks ago.
With the salary cap, Roar insiders speculate the 23 man roster may not be filled in the off-season.
