GOLD Coast United boss Miron Bleiberg was thrilled with the way players stepped up to the plate in the absence of Jason Culina as his team reclaimed top spot.
Shane Smeltz scored both United's goals to take his tally for the season to eight. Sydney's only reply was a header from Steve Corica.
Bleiberg was delighted to get back to winning ways after last week's defeat by Newcastle Jets.
"There is a lot of depth in this squad and we proved it today. We had players like Zenon Caravella and many others who really stepped up today," said Bleiberg. "We were quite comfortable throughout most of the game and we deserved our win."
Smeltz's contribution was highlighted again by the coach with Bleiberg very happy to see the striker finish so coolly yet again.
Bleiberg added: "Shane (Smeltz) was excellent again and he took his goals very well. When Shane is one-on-one with the goalkeeper like he was for the second goal, you can light your cigar!
"It was a very good game in terms of quality and was a great advertisement for the Hyundai A-League."
