NEWCASTLE Jets boss Branko Culina has challenged his strikers to earn their place in the A-League opener against Adelaide United with a final opportunity tonight.
The Jets finalise their preparations against NSW Premier League side Rockdale City this evening with the battle still on for positions in the final third.
Skipper Michael Bridges appears to be the only man guaranteed a start against the Reds with everyone else still only pencilled into the teamsheet.
Sasho Petrovski, Labinot Haliti and Sean Rooney are battling it out for the spot at the point of the attack.
''They have all done well in patches and are pretty equal on points,'' Culina told the Newcastle Herald.
''I'd like someone to step up and say, 'Hey, you can't replace me because every time I play I score a goal.''
Not that it is just in attack where Culina has a happy selection headache. There's also competition for spots in the engine room.
Jobe Wheelhouse, Ben Kantarovski and Ruben Zadkovich are all hoping to feature alongside Kasey Wehrman
Culina added: ''God how I wish we had this situation last year when we were in fourth spot and challenging for the top two."
