Ahead of Sunday’s clash against seventh placed Perth Glory at AAMI Park, the talented 19-year-old stopper said the evenness of the league ensured no team could be complacent.

A-League pace-setters Central Coast are eight points clear atop with Brisbane Roar and Heart in the chasing pack in second and third spot both on 25 points.

But after that, just four points separate ninth placed Jets from Wellington in fourth. It’s been a feature of the league and Hamill thinks it’s a positive for fans and players.

“I think the league is very close. On any given day a team playing its best can beat any team. It’s shown on the table,” he told au.fourfourtwo.com.

Heart's fixtures with Glory this season highlight Hamill's belief. The WA took the points at AAMI earlier this campaign against a listless Heart who returned the favour in Perth taking the points with a late goal in a 2-1 win.

The powerfully built Hamill has enjoyed a breakthrough season but refused to be drawn on the prospect of missing future games for Heart due to Olyroo call-ups.

He said maintaining good club form with the red and white half of the city is all that matters ahead of February’s commitments with the U-23s in qualification for London 2012.

If as expected, three of Heart’s younger stars are called up, roster depth will be tested – particularly now that club captain Fred is out injured for four to six weeks.

In team news for the Glory clash, Jonatan Germano , Simon Colosimo and Wayne Srhoj return from injury and join promoted striker Maycon at the selection table.

Sunday’s game is set to see Clint Bolton move up into second spot on the all-time national league appearances, surpassing Paul Trimboli.

Hamill paid tribute to a footballer whose record is as commanding as his presence on the park.

“It’s massive, massive to have a guy like Clint Bolton talking to you and commanding you. It helps me a lot and I try to learn a lot from him,” said Hamill.

“He’s almost twice my age and he’s experienced a lot.”

After returning from the Gold Coast game last week, where the team did their recovery on Monday following their 1-1 draw with United, Melbourne’s unusually chilly weather has been a challenge this week.

“The time away from football was good," added Hamill. "It’s always good to get away.

“You need to have a balance in life and forgetting it on the Gold Coast where it’s a different sort of place in Surfers Paradise with the weather.”

In other news, next Monday John Aloisi’s NYL squad take on Perth Glory at John Cain Reserve in Northcote with exciting midfielder Adrian Zahra set to play.

And Heart’s development squad under the guidance of Joe Skoko is set to take part in the Melbourne Chinese New Year Charity Shield tournament at the Veneto Club in Bulleen on January 22.
