“To win the grand final this season would just be massive for me,” he told au.fourfourtwo.com.

"I don’t really set goals for myself in terms of how many goals I want to score because I just want the team to do well.

"A top two finish is what I’d be happy with. Any goals I score on top of that would just be a bonus."

The Jets’ amazing finish to Version 2 of the A-League looks to have continued, with the side carrying its good form so far into the pre-season.

For rival teams, this may be ominous, with the Newcastle outfit still adapting to life without stars Paul Okon, Milton Rodriguez and Nick Carle.

Bridge himself has found career-best form after representing Australia at U-23 level under Rob Baan and being called into the Socceroos’ Asian Cup training camp in Singapore.

“I’m feeling in great shape right now. I’ve learnt so much in the past year and the camp in Singapore was unbelievable to be a part of," he said.

"It was intimidating at first but they couldn’t have made me feel any more comfortable. Watching those guys was phenomenal. I watched Mark Viduka so closely during it. He’s a superb player. A real freak.

"He scores some unbelievable goals in training and you just can’t get the ball off him. Most people just don’t get to see that. Even during games, he works his bollocks off and people don’t see that either."

Bridge says that apart from the Jets, Melbourne Victory will again prove to be one of the top sides despite the fact that the Jets beat them 1-0 in Geelong on the weekend.

He added: “They still just look so hard and very-well drilled. You can’t look too much into the pre-season results.

"They’ll be hard to beat this season. I just can’t wait though, I want this season to be huge.”
