The 24-year-old All-White has enjoyed a breakout season with nine goals. He sits in joint second spot behind the A-League’s top scorer Besart Berisha on 18.

Brockie pinpointed his stellar form as being largely due to a strong pre-season. He also dropped almost a stone from his playing weight.

Some eye-catching goals, a good attitude in training matched by a strong work-rate has resulted in him become a key member of the starting XI under Gary Van Egmond.

His partnership with Ryan Griffiths has clicked with the pair both on nine goals with Glory's Shane Smeltz.

But Brockie, who’s made 25 appearances starting in 20 of those games, is out of contract at the end of the season which no doubt has other A-League clubs on alert.

“It’s a tough one. I’m really enjoying my football here and comfortable but it’s always been a dream of mine to play further abroad,” he told au.fourfourtwo.com.

Brockie has played the required 85% of New Zealand games but the All-Whites have slipped out of the top 70 in world rankings.

It makes a European move more problematic but there is always Asia.

However the Jets continue to build a strong case and Brockie hinted strongly that he’d prefer to remain under the highly rated coaching team of van Egmond, Arthur Papas and Craig Deans.

“I’m more than happy to stay in Newcastle if we can get something sorted in the next few weeks. But the main focus right now is to get into that top six,” he said.

"And when you’re in a positive environment [in Newcastle] you’re going to perform on the park.

“I’ve been impressed with my season so far but I can’t take my foot off the pedal."

The finals contender entertain benchmark club Brisbane Roar this Saturday in Newcastle. It should be a ripper with two sides who play football the way the fans like to see it.

And with the top three scorers in the league – Brockie, Berisha and Ryan Griffiths – set to take to the park, it’s a must-see.

It’s part one of a crucial two weeks for the Hunter club who end their regular season a week later in the Harbour City.

“It is a tough period coming up with a lot to play for. Sixth, fifth and even fourth spot for us," said Brockie, a former Sydney FC and Fury player.

“Saturday we know is a big opportunity to put one foot into the finals."

Brockie described the Jets as “sloppy” in their home draw with bottom side Gold Coast last weekend.

The side will bounce back, promised Brockie - and they will need to play much better.

He added: “That may’ve been the wake-up call to spark us for the next two games. And we beat Roar last time up there 1-0 which gives us confidence.

“Hopefully it all clicks on the day."

At Jets training today, coach Gary van Egmond worked tirelessly on the side’s conditioning, with small-sided games intended to fine-tune the Jets’ pressing game.

Striker Ryan Griffiths didn’t train due to a cork but is expected to be back on the track this Thursday.

And keeper Ben Kennedy had injections after last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Gold Coast United and was rested from the session.
