A report in Fairfax claimed owner Clive Palmer will take his money out of the club and leave the A-League with a ten team season.

Speaking at a hastily arranged press conference to address the rumours of United's demise, Buckley denied there had been a letter sent to FFA by the Gold Coast owner Clive Palmer saying he wanted out.

However, FFA said it will work with the A-League club to boost its poor community program and find new investors.

"I've been in discussions with their CEO this morning and he's assured me it's business as usual," Buckley said.

United CEO Clive Mensink told au.fourfourtwo.com this morning that the club would refute media reports that the club was set to go under.

However Buckley added FFA is working to help United find a business model that makes them a more financially viable operation.

The FFA CEO who has been fighting a number of fires lately with North Queensland Fury going through their own teething problems, also was reluctant to say whether Palmer was in it for the long haul.

"He's demonstrated his commitment he's made in investment over the last 18 months and we certainly hopeful he will continue that commitment," he said.

Buckley assured the assembled press that the United players were being paid and it was business as usual.

There is some interest from new investors, it's been reported, which Buckley confirmed. He also said that the FFA could possibly invest in the club but Buckley said he hoped the right model was found.

"We have been talking to the club for some time about options around restructuring to further its development as a viable long term operation.

"Discussions are continuing and include looking at how we can work together to attract  further sponsorship and investment and better ways to engage local community support for the club."

Buckley was also adamant that the strategic rationale for expansion but conceded the crowds on the Gold Coast were poor.

"But we believe there is a foundation there to be grown upon."

Speaking to goldcoast.com.au CEO Clive Mensink said: "Clive is still involved and I don't where talk of him withdrawing is coming from.

''We have been in touch with the FFA of late but nothing about us pulling out. Our contact has been about normal business affairs.

''I view this is all as a distraction and as far as I am concerned there is nothing to sort through, other than to prepare for next season."

Gold Coast's players have told local radio that they are not aware of any issue surrounding the club's future either.
