The second-year club has endured a stuttering opening to the season with two byes in the first five weeks but Thwaite and his mates will get their chance to impress when United travel to Perth to take on Glory at NIB Stadium on Sunday.

Thwaite hopes that two weeks on the training pitch will be enough for United to match it with the undefeated Glory.

"Momentum is a big deal in the A-League," he said.

"Obviously we have to build ours almost from scratch with the draw we have been handed – we've been quiet disappointed with having two byes in the first five rounds."

"It's been pretty awful watching the games each weekend. I think it is unfair to us to have two byes at this stage of the season. A bye would've been nice on Boxing Day but there is nothing we can do about that."

United coach Miron Bleiberg won't let his players get caught up in the scheduling – the task at hand is far too great.

Glory has netted 10 goals for three wins and two draws to sit atop the ladder with Adelaide United and the combination of Mile Sterjovski and Robbie Fowler is looking extremely dangerous.

Thwaite, a defensive gem, knows the task that lies ahead.

"They kind of play a 4-4-1-1 with Fowler being an expert player between the line of defence and the midfield so he is going to be very dangerous, both he and Mile are on-song and on target with their goal-scoring as well," he said.

At the other end of the field will be United recruit Bruce Djite who has slotted in nicely on the Gold Coast.

And with striker Joel Porter racing the clock to recover from a hamstring tear Djite will be the target on Sunday, but Thwaite warned fans not to expect too much from the fringe Socceroo.

"Bruce is still trying to work out the formations that we play and the coaches are trying to work out how to fit him into the squad as a lot of the tactics in the pre-season centred around Porter and (Shane) Smeltz," he said.

While United won't take any real momentum into the game, the desire to succeed, Thwaite says, will be enough to ensure they give a good account.

"We cant really take any confidence into the game because we didn't play last week - plus last time we played Perth we lost (in the pre-season)," he said.

"They will be the ones high on confidence – they are on eleven points, we are on two – so we have to prove ourselves to everyone and get back to where we belong."
