SYDNEY FC's marquee man Nick Carle admits the current A-League champions are facing "a very important week" as they look to pull themselves out of the mire and kick their sluggish season into life.
It's the eight day stretch Sydney FC believe could make or break their season.
After a much-needed week off thanks to the bye this weekend, the struggling Sky Blues will play three home matches in the space of a week which could prove pivotal in their hopes of mounting a serious defence of their A-League title.
Vitezslav Lavicka's side will play matches against the Gold Coast (September 26), North Queensland (Sept 29) and Adelaide (October 4) at the SFS.
Without a win from their first six matches and rooted to the bottom of the ladder, Sydney are hoping for a fresh start following this weekend's bye and have targeted those three home games as crucial to getting their season up and running.
"There's no escaping that's it's going to be a very important week for our season," midfielder Nick Carle told Sportal on Thursday as the team went through a light training session at Bondi Beach.
"You don't want to put yourself in the position where you're chasing for the rest of the season.
"We've done that a little bit now but we can't afford to let the gap get too big.
"With three home games in a week you can be sitting mid-table or higher with a few wins.
"We believe it's only a matter of time before we turn it around. The playing talent is there.
"I'm still really confident we're going to have a very successful season."
While it may be the club's worst ever start to an A-League season, striker Mark Bridge believes the team was still capable of being a contender for the title and said confidence was still very high amongst the playing group.
"If we were playing crap or terrible every week then we'd be worried," Bridge said.
"But we're playing some good football and doing some good things so there's positive signs.
"With these three games in quick succession if we get three wins then everyone forgets what happened at the start of the season.
"We'll move up the ladder and then it will be up to us to continue that form."
The week off should ensure injured trio Nick Carle (toe), Terry McFlynn (hamstring) and Alex Brosque (ankle) are all back to fitness for the first of their three home games against the Gold Coast in a timely boost for the Sky Blues.
Brosque has missed the last four games and McFlynn three but the pair are near certainties to return next week.
Carle is also confident he should be fine despite walking around in a moonboot at Bondi and he won't start full training again until late next week.
"I've still got to have an x-ray later this week but it feels a lot better," Carle said.
"To have Brosquey and Tezza (McFlynn) back is a massive boost for the team.
"We've really missed players of that calibre when they're gone so to have them back for the same game is great."
