Injuries have thwarted Carle for the bulk of the season and he is the first to admit he hasn't made the impact hoped for.

"I was brought to the club to do a job and I haven't," Carle told The Sunday Telegraph.

"It's a season I'd rather forget. I must say the club has been absolutely brilliant. Scott Barlow [vice-chairman] rang me during the week to see how I was going. He told me the injuries were out of my control and reminded me they had signed me for three years, not one, and not to put so much pressure on myself."

Carle is desperate to put his injury problems behind him.

"I just want to get back playing and not only show what I can really do, but help Sydney," he said.

"I started running during the week, but I still can't pass and kick a ball."

He has a target for a return but it ultimately rests with the club's medical staff.

"I would like to be back for the game against Melbourne Heart in a couple of weeks, if not the one at home against Wellington," he added.
