A leg fracture early last season wiped out his campaign but Casey has battled back to fitness and is delighted to be extending his stay with John Kosmina's men.

Speaking after training at Sydney Football Stadium this morning, he said: "It's (the new contract) definitely a weight off my shoulders signing on for another two years.

"Sydney is where I wanted to stay, I'm having a family soon so settling down here was a major thing."

Casey said his injury woes had never dampened his self belief and was delighted the club had stuck with him.

He said: "I have had a few injuries over the past few seasons but I've always had confidence in my abilities when I have been playing and that's (injury) the only thing that's hindered my progress so far.

"I think as I do get more games under my belt I will improve and I will start to cement my spot even more.

"It is a good show of faith from the club towards me, that they do have confidence in my abilities as well. I'm grateful for that and I hope to do well for them."

And as he prepares to face Central Coast Mariners at the SFS on Saturday night, Casey is adamant he is by no means the finished article.

He said: "I think I've still got a lot to show. As I said before, getting more game time I think you're going to see a lot more of me.

"Coming back has made me hungrier to prove what I can do. Kossie gave me some kind words and helped me get through that rough patch."

While Casey is celebrated a new deal teammate Terry McFlynn is just looking to build on last week's triumph in Melbourne.

The Northern Ireland man said: "It's always a good encounter (against Central Coast) and a good spectacle for the fans. Tomorrow'll be no different.

"At this stage of the season every game's an important game.

"In every season there's one or two games where you have to stand up and be counted and I think last week was one of those games. We stood the test well and tomorrow we're at home where we're unbeaten this season.

"It (the SFS) is an intimidating arena to play in and especially with our fans. We've got the best fans in the A-League and hopefully they can turn out in big numbers tomorrow and get behind us."

As for his own contribution to the season so far McFlynn said: "I'm really enjoying my football at the minute and if you're winning games you're enjoying your football a lot more."
