Coach John Kosmina has confirmed that Cole, Chris Payne, Ryan Walsh and Youth League striker Robbie Mileski will all be in the squad for the clash with Ernie Merrick’s men.

The Sydney FC boss has no fears about throwing the quartet in as he feels they are good enough for the task.

Cole, the newest club recruit is likely to be handed responsibility for free-kicks and corners after whipping over numerous deliveries at training today.

Kosmina said: “He’s great on set pieces, exceptional on set pieces. He’s a very laconic sort of character. You don’t get much out of him in terms of vocal input but his football I think will speak for itself.

“Tomorrow will be a baptism of fire for him. We might have four debutants in the squad tomorrow which is probably unheard of since round one of the A-League three years ago.

"It’s not by choice, it’s how it’s worked out but I’m quite happy to throw these kids in. They’ve got to get their chance at some stage and I think they’re good enough to do a job.”

Cole, formerly of Sydney Olympic, doesn’t seem nervous at the prospect of making his A-League debut.

Speaking to the media after training, the youngster said he wasn’t feeling any real pressure. He said: “I’m okay. The boys are very good, very supportive. They give me a lot of confidence in my own game.

“I should be alright. I’ve been given a job to do and I’ll do it the best I can.

“(Set pieces) is something I work very hard on. Hopefully I can add something to our attack.”

As for the step up from state league to A-League, Cole said: “The pace and the decision-making is a bit quicker.”

Cole may be a new name to many of the Sydney FC fans but he refuses to see himself as having emerged overnight from nowhere.

“It seems quick for everyone else but for me it’s been a long, hard journey. I’m very grateful to be given an opportunity,” he said.

Not even the prospect of getting up close and personal with Kevin Muscat is causing Cole any stress.

He said: “I played against him in the Pre-Season Cup last year and he gave me a good whack. It’s part of the game. I’d rather be copping a whack from him than watching someone else cop a whack.”

Teenage striker Payne has already generated plenty of headlines ahead of his debut but Kosmina isn’t expecting miracles.

He said: “You’re going to have to wait and see with Chris. He’s a young kid, 17, in the middle of his exams.

"He plays on Saturday night, back to school on Monday doing his HSC and we probably won’t see him very often until his HSC is finished.

"That’s how it goes. I’m not looking at Payney to set the world on fire tomorrow, I just want him to do a job.”

Tony Popovic is expected to shake off a minor case of flu today, Jacob Timpano will also start despite an injury niggle but Adam Biddle misses out with an ankle problem.
