Goals from Robbie Kruse, Reinaldo, Tajh Minniecon and Josh McCloughan secured a victory that moved Roar level on points with ladder leaders Central Coast, but Farina remained cautious in victory.

When asked whether he was now targeting a top-two finish, he insisted that the top four was still his main focus.

“I think with 30 points you’re very close to making the four, but we’ve got three games to go against Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide and they’re all big games," said Farina.

"We will continue to take it a game at a time and if we can perform in the manner we did tonight, I’m confident that we’ll pick up points.”

The former Socceroos coach went on to praise his charges who capitalised on several glaring defensive errors to defeat a Perth outfit who looked the better side for long periods of the game.

“The first opportunity we got, we took and the second was a mistake by Perth, but we capitalised on it”, he said.

“To come in 2-0 up at half-time was probably a bit flattering for us,” admitted Farina, “but we’ll take that any day of the week. Up front we pressurised really well and forced them to turn over possession.

"There have been other games this season where we’ve absolutely battered sides, not taken our chances and lost 1-0, but tonight we took those chances and the boys did ever so well.”

Influential midfielder Danny Tiatto was withdrawn from the fray at half-time, but Farina insisted the move was a precautionary one and that the former Leicester City enforcer is expected to be fit for next week’s clash with Sydney.

Craig Moore, however, will be unavailable for the Suncorp showdown through suspension after picking up a first-half booking.

Farina’s counterpart Dave Mitchell, meanwhile, admitted that his thoughts had already turned to next season following a defeat that finally extinguished Glory’s slender hopes of making the finals.

“We’ve got a lot of young boys in the team who are still learning their trade a bit,” he said. “They can’t always perform to the highest level every week.

"Our emphasis now is very much to build a squad for next season and next week I will definitely be making some changes and doing some experimenting.”

Mitchell was equally frank in his assessment of the game.

“First-half I thought we played quite well”, he said. “We dominated a lot of possession without being really threatening, but we made a couple of silly mistakes and they punished us for them.

"Second-half, just as we got back into the game we made another silly mistake and they’ve capitalised again. It was very disappointing and next season we have to make sure that we don’t make so many mistakes.”

Glory looked toothless up front despite a first goal of the season for Nick Rizzo and that fact was not lost on the manager.

“We lacked a little bit of punch up front tonight and in fact we’ve lacked that all season,” he admitted.

"I’m looking forward to bringing in someone next year who is going to cause plenty of problems up front.”

The build-up to the game had been dominated by rumours that Simon Colosimo will be joining Sydney FC next season and the Glory skipper found himself roundly booed throughout the night by a substantial section of the crowd.

Mitchell was quick to condemn those who chose to jeer the unsettled utility man before offering his blunt assessment of the situation.

“Simon may be leaving or he may not, but at the moment he is still employed by the club and he’s still trying and doing his best for the club,” said the Glory boss.

"It’s hard for him to perform under duress like that and it was disappointing to hear. He doesn’t deserve that and I certainly think it was character-building for him for me to leave him on there so he could get through it.

He added: "If someone doesn’t want to be here, that’s fine, they can go.

"I’ll bring people in who want to be here and it’s important that the club have the right people here with the right attitude and character.

"Simon’s been here for three years and he may want to broaden his horizons. Sydney’s a big club, it’s the centre of the national game and it might be good for him to go.

"I understand if he has decided to go there and I’ll take it on the chin. I’ll bring in a player who is equally good if not better.”

Mitchell also revealed that both Jason Petkovic and Stan Lazaridis will make their first starts of the campaign in next week’s home clash with Central Coast.
