The 5,000 cap will be in place for United's looming encounter with Melbourne Victory - a policy widely condemned when it was briefly introduced last year.

Gold Coast United Supporters Club officials have met with United CEO Clive Mensink and there appears to be a willingness to work together to try and boost numbers.

An open meeting ahead of the Victory clash is a possibility to allow as many fans as possible to discuss the way forward.

In a meeting update on the supporters club's official website, secretary Terry Hands said: "In the end only upward pressure on 5000 ticket sales is going to get the club to open more stands.

"Although we do not condone the use of the cap to achieve this end, we understand the commercial principles behind such a move.

"We want to move ahead and try and work with the club to achieve bigger crowds. We will be taking ideas directly to a meeting with the club.

"It is understood that we will continue to have regular meetings with the club and hopefully other stakeholders."

The GCUSC held a meeting over the weekend and while happy to work together with United, they want to see the club is listening and willing to adopt ideas from outside and pursue fresh strategies.

The GCUSC will review the situation again at the end of November.
