The 31-year-old defender's return is exactly what the struggling club needs but after extending his loan with Chinese Super League club Liaoning Whowin earlier in the year Coyne will not be available to play until Glory's January 3 game against Gold Coast.

That means Coyne will miss the bulk of Glory's 2010/2011 A-League campaign, with him only available for the club's final eight regular season matches.

Coyne had originally moved to Liaoning in March in a bid to improve his chances of selection for the Socceroos 2010 World Cup squad, before extending his deal only to discover it meant he would miss much of the A-League season.

"As soon as the A-League season started I was itching to get back but there was nothing we could do to change the circumstances," Coyne told The West Australian.

Seventh-placed Liaoning have three more games to play this CSL season, enabling Coyne to return to Australia next month.

And while Coyne's involvement will be limited, he is eager to make an influence off the field.

"I don't take too kindly watching games, especially when I feel I should be out there," he said.

"But if I can come into the dressing room and help the younger players and be a voice through the gaffer, at least it's something.

"It gives me an opportunity to get myself super-fit and come out firing when available for selection."

Coyne added he was confident Glory, who have lost their past six A-League matches, could find their form.

"When you've got that sort of quality in the dressing room you've got every chance of not just turning it around but of going on with it," he said.

"It's not just about working hard in training. It's about going out there and doing the business on match day. You don't get paid to train. You get paid to win games.

"It's important that we get ourselves out of this rut."
