The defender has been much coveted during the break but he has rejected all other offers because he badly wants to be part of a Glory side that is free of tags like 'underachieving' and 'cellar dweller'.

As Perth prepare to jet off for a couple of warm up matches in Indonesia, the 27-year-old is bursting with optimism about the season ahead.

He told au.fourfourtwo.com: "I had four or five other A-League options to look at and while it's really flattering to have that kind of interest, I desperately want to be part of a Perth Glory side that has some success.

"This is a club with a strong history and being from Perth you really don't want your team to be doing badly.

"When the club's in your heart, it hurts a lot when it's not where you want it to be. The last two years have been disappointing but everyone's looking forward now and I really believe we can have a top four finish this year.

"Dave Mitchell has taken over and I think it's helped revitalise some of the players. It was a case of everyone having to prove themselves again, proving that they deserve to be at this club.

"Training is going well, there's a few new faces and there's a good spirit about things."

While Coyne will always have an extra special attachment to the club by being a 'local', he insists he isn't alone in having spurned other offers to stay put.

He said: "I think there's a few other players who had the chance to move on but didn't. As I said, there's a real determination to build some success here."

Coyne and his colleagues are due to leave Perth later today for Indonesia and will play two matches in East Java against Indonesian Super League sides Persik Kediri on Sunday 29 June and Deltras Sidoarjo on Friday 4 July.
