NEWCASTLE Jets manager Branko Culina admits his side didn't have their shooting boots on after wasting several opportunities in their 1-1 home draw with Melbourne Heart on Friday night.
The Jets had several chances, particularly in the first-half, go begging and were left to rue their failure in front of goal when the Heart equalised with ten minutes to go in the contest.
Culina, though, told Fox Sports he was happy with his side's performance but admitted they were wasteful.
"I was delighted with the way we played particularly the first-half, had we had our shooting boots on we could've been two or three goals up and the game would've been over at the half-time, but that wasn't the case," he said.
"The manner in which we conceded the goal was a little bit disappointing, but overall it was a terrific performance from the players."
Jets captain Michael Bridges added: "The front four created enough chances in the first half to blow them out of the park.
"From a personal point of view, we only have ourselves to blame. We had the game tied up and you have to take the positives out of the first half."
Newcastle had a decent second-half penalty claim turned down when Bridges was brought down inside the box.
Culina refused to be drawn into talk about the decision, but didn't hide his feelings.
"You make your own decision," he said. I won't say anything, I'm still trying to pay off a fine from last year."
A tight-lipped Bridges added after the game: "I don't need to say anything else - it was a penalty.
"I've just done the scissors on him (Colosimo) and got past him and he's knocked me. I can't say too much, but it was a penalty."
Culina also acknowledged the Jets needed to work on their finishing, but said it would be no different to any other week at training.
"We do it (practice our finishing) every week, it's not just this week," he said.
The Newcastle coach continued: "We are awaiting the arrival of Zhang Shuo, our Chinese international who we've signed and hopefully he can assist us in this.
"I'm pleased with the way we're creating opportunities and if we keep creating opportunities we'll score goals."
The Jets mentor added: "We believe in the team we've got.
"I've said all along our aim is to go into every game knowing we can win the game, rather than hoping and I think we're well on our way there.
"Maybe some of the experts out there don't know what we know about our team, but we certainly feel as though we're on the right track."
