NEWCASTLE Jets coach Branko Culina insisted the club's recent crisis which left players unpaid was no excuse for their result on Saturday evening as they went down 2-1 to Adelaide United.
"You don't want to think about it," he said. "You want to try and put that aside.
"You've got to rise above it. If you let it bog you down and get thinking about it then we're never going to dig ourselves out of the situation.
"We didn't want to use that, we don't want sympathy, we don't want excuses."
Adelaide took a two-goal lead in the contest, before the Jets dragged one back late through Sean Rooney to offer hope but there would be no equaliser.
Culina added: "Some of the players it didn't bother them, but others obviously may have been affected by it."
Newcastle's next match is at home to Perth Glory on Friday night.
