NEWCASTLE Jets' climb towards the A-League's top three continues and their coach has hailed his players' ability to deal with the pressure that comes with such a transformation.
Newcastle roared into a 2-0 lead against North Queensland Fury yesterday, only to be pegged back to 2-2 by the visitors. But Branko Culina's men rallied hard and secured all three points through Sasho Petrovski's fine winner.
Culina was delighted with the way his team fought on to maintain the side's impressive winning streak leading into the Christmas period.
"When you're winning you don't necessarily have to play pretty football, and we certainly didn't do that today, but because we're winners, we just kept winning," he said.
"If you compare the way that we played against Sydney, Adelaide, or even Gold Coast last week, you'd probably say it wasn't as fluent.
"(But) we achieved what no other team in the A-League has, including Melbourne and Sydney, we won four in a row."
Culina hailed the way his players have handled the situation and the change in horizon and expectations.
"When you get to that stage, there's a little bit of stage fright there as well because you think 'oh my God, is it really possible that we can do that?' And I think that played its part, but credit to the players," Culina added.
The Jets will take to the road next week, flying out on Christmas Day to prepare for a Boxing Day showdown with Perth Glory at ME Bank Stadium.
