LEVANTE have announced Inaki Descarga is off the critical list and out of danger after he suffered an horrific injury on Sunday.
The defender clashed heads with opponent Ruben de la Red during his side's 2-1 loss at Getafe and had to be rushed to hospital.
But Levante doctor Joaquin Mas has confirmed the player is now conscious and breathing on his own.
"Descarga will stay under observation for 24 hours," Mas told Spanish sports daily Marca. "But he's getting better.
"It's normal that when you receive a huge blow to the head you lose consciousness, but he's good.
"A 24-hour stay is normal when you have a bump on your head. He himself told me that he is doing well."
The Levante captain suffered the blow as he rose for a corner with Getafe midfielder De la Red.
Referee Eduardo Iturralde Gonzalez frantically called for medical assistance and they had to put a tube down Descarga's throat to help him breathe.
The 31-year-old was treated for about 10 minutes on the pitch before being taken by ambulance to hospital.
So bad was his injury that team-mate Jose Manuel Serrano also had to receive attention after suffering a form of panic attack.
