EXCLUSIVE: Travis Dodd will mature into a fantastic Adelaide United captain according to the man who spotted his leadership potential more than two years ago.
Dodd has netted two goals in two starts for Aurelio Vidmar's men this season and ex Hindmarsh skipper Ross Aloisi is delighted for him.
He told au.fourfourtwo.com: "It's great to see the start he's had this season. I think Travis has grown both as a person and as a player in the last year or so.
"I am convinced he is going to be a fantastic player for the club. He gets on really well with everyone and gives his all out on the park.
"I think Aurelio Vidmar made a good choice there. Being a captain offers a challenge. It's great when things are going well but you can find yourself the target of the flak if things aren't going well.
"You have to be able to deal with all that, stand up and be counted and be there to fight the players' corner when it's required.
"I think someone like Kevin Muscat is a good example of that. A captain who isn't afraid to have his yes. You certainly don't want your captain to be a 'yes' man."
Aloisi says he told Dodd more than a year ago that he had the potential to be the club captain.
He said: "I remember very clearly speaking to him on a beach at a recovery session, telling him 'you could be the captain here'. I'm glad it's worked out for him.
"I'm sure he'll continue to grow into the role and if he's scoring goals in the process then Aurelio and the fans are going to be very happy."
