LANDON Donovan claims Los Angeles Galaxy team-mate David Beckham has given him the confidence to succeed at Bayern Munich.
Donovan has moved to the German champions on loan from the Major League Soccer side until mid-March and scored two late goals in last night's 5-0 friendly win over Mainz.
The American international is looking to make it third time lucky in Germany after two short, unsuccessful spells with Bayern Leverkusen, and Beckham has given him his backing.
"David has tried to lift me and told me that I am going to make it," he told the Bild newspaper.
"I know that he hopes that everything works out for me at Bayern. We are in contact and write each other text messages.
"I told him recently that I think it's great how he is playing for AC Milan."
Both players are due to return to the States in time for the start of the new MLS season, but Donovan is not yet convinced his future lies back in his homeland.
"That would not please Galaxy," he said. "David has already said he will be back in Los Angeles in mid-March, but the situation is a bit different with me.
"I want to make it here."
Bayern face Stuttgart in the third round of the DFB-Pokal on Tuesday before travelling to Hamburg three days later as the Bundesliga returns from its winter break.
