GOALKEEPER Danny Vukovic will tonight learn the fate of his appeal after being hit with a 15 month ban for striking referee Mark Shield in the grand final.
But Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna is hopeful his young custodian’s Olympic dreams are not shattered and he has noted the support and sympathy for the Olyroo.
He said: “Danny has admitted he did wrong but we don’t want the boy’s (Olympic) dream to be taken away. He’s played every single game in the build up.
“Also, I saw on the internet that there were more than a thousand or so signatures on a ‘Save Danny’ petition or article. I’ve already said that Danny is the most popular player with the public here on the Coast. He’s a real punters’ favourite as well as being a great goalkeeper.”
Vukovic’s appeal will be heard at FFA headquarters tonight with fellow Mariner Sasho Petrovski facing a rap for an alleged abusive gesture towards a match official in the grand final.
