The Jets suffered a 5-0 thrashing at Melbourne Victory in round three and van Egmond was furious with the result and the performance.

The players trained at Newcastle University today and the coach was encouraged by the attitude and effort on display.

However, he wants to see that transferred on to the big stage when A-League points are at stake.

He told au.fourfourtwo.com: "You are going to be down after losing by such a score but I thought there was a good response in training today.

"We (the coaching staff) have looked at it (the Melbourne defeat) and we'll go through some of it with the players.

"It hurts to lose like that and to have no wins after three games. Hopefully this is rock bottom for us. But as champions, you have to stand up to the challenges, both the mental ones and the ones you face on the pitch.

"People have to be accountable for the way they perform. The attitude has to be right and it wasn't on Friday.

"It leads to ill-discipline, poor concentration levels and you get lapses. You give instructions to players and you want those taken out on to the field and followed.

"You also want communication and your senior players to instruct, encourage or admonish when necessary.

"But we'll work on things and look to put things right when we get out there again.

"That game is over now and yes, it's about how they respond."

The coach also confirmed that skipper Jade North was not expected to move on before the transfer window slammed shut.
