The Pharaohs are due to face Bafana Bafana in South Africa on March 24 in an African Nations Cup qualifier but will instead ask the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to delay the fixture until the summer.

Egypt is currently in a period of transition following the pro-democracy protests that led to the removal of President Hosni Mubarak.

The unrest has also led to the indefinite suspension of the country's domestic football league, while an international friendly against the United States in Cairo planned for February 9 was also cancelled.

"We will send a letter to CAF on Wednesday," Egypt's assistant coach Hamada Sedki told www.filgoal.com. "We will ask them to play the game in June should they accept our request.

"The team must have suffered a dip in form after the league was halted, so we want to put off the game with South Africa."
