EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle Jets' flight plan remains locked onto finals football despite losing Fabio Vignaroli, according to high-flying Tarek Elrich.
Vignaroli's season has been ended by a serious season-ending knee injury while fellow import Michael Bridges is also on the treatment table albeit only short-term.
The Italian's injury came just as the Jets were putting an impressive run of results together but Elrich is confident the squad can carry on the good work without him.
"Fabio is a massive loss, no question," Elrich told au.fourfourtwo.com today. "He has been playing really well for us and he leaves some massive shoes to fill.
"Both he and Michael bring so much to the club, during matches and during training. They've played in the best leagues in the world and you learn so much from them."
But Elrich is confident the absence of Bridges and Vignaroli won't result in a sudden collapse.
"There might be those now ready to write us off," he said. "They can do that if they want. Every year we get written off. I was only reading an article the other day that had us predicted to finish ninth or tenth.
"These people don't see us at training, they don't see the boys full of laughter.
"We are without two very important players but now is an opportunity for others to show what they can do. We do have depth in this squad and people will step up."
Elrich is looking forward to the challenge of trying to extend the club's unbeaten run at least another week when North Queensland Fury visit town this weekend.
He added: "We're at home, we'll be looking to build on the win over Gold Coast but they had a good result in their last match so I'm sure they will be feeling positive as well."
