SPECULATION is mounting that football superstar David Beckham is heading to the Middle East, with a possible move to the UAE Pro League.
Beckham recently attended the same gala dinner at the Emirates Palace marina as Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed who is also chairman of UAE outfit Al Jazira.
Asked by UAE news site The National if he would sign with the Abu Dhabi outfit, Beckham responded: “We’ll see.”
A growing number of Aussies have headed to the cashed up Middle East leagues including Socceroos captain Lucas Neill and former Sydney FC players Alex Brosque (Al Ain) and Nick Carle (Baniyas SC).
The football world has been on a 24/7 Beckham alert since the global icon became a free agent, leaving MLS club LA Galaxy last month.
A-League’s Perth Glory and Melbourne Heart have both expressed interest in bringing him Down Under, and just this week Central Coast Mariners outlined an ambitious plan to snare both Beckham and Sydney FC’s marquee man Alessandro Del Piero.
The sports celebrity and his former pop-star wife, Victoria, already have property interests in the Persian Gulf – a luxurious seven-bedroom island villa off the Dubai coast reportedly worth $AU7.5 million.
