The Mexican Football Federation (Femexfut) have given a vote of confidence to national team coach Sven-Goran Eriksson but expressed their dissatisfaction with the way the team advanced to the final round of World Cup qualification.
President Justino Compean and secretary general Decio de Maria headed a board meeting where they decided to retain the Swede, but insisted El Tri must improve their form.
Mexico made it into the final round of the CONCACAF Qualifying Zone by winning their three home games, but took just one point on their travels.
A 1-0 defeat away to Honduras in their final game put their qualification at risk, but they advanced on goal difference at Jamaica's expense.
Femexfut released a report with four items, three of them regarding Eriksson's position.
"Firstly, even though Mexico advanced to the final round on 10 points, as a result of three wins, one draw and two defeats, the Committee of National Teams is not satisfied as it was not the expected way to achieve qualification," the report read.
"The committee maintain and back Sven-Goran Eriksson and his coaching staff.
The final qualifying round will see Mexico play home and away games against the United States, El Salvador, Honduras, Trinidad & Tobago and Costa Rica.
