To see the rainy training session...

The 32 year-old former Lazio and Bologna striker enjoyed his first ball-work session with the club at training on Thursday and displayed some nifty finishing during a couple of practice games.

Speaking to au.fourfourtwo.com after training, van Egmond said: "It was the first time we've seen him with the ball and he looked nice and sharp.

"He's a decent finisher and probably had more touches out there than any other player in the small-sided games we had. He's looking good.

"We've got four or five trial matches before we get going and we'll know a lot more by then. But early indications are good."

Van Egmond believes Vignaroli offers his team something new. He said: "He's someone who can get on the ball and direct traffic in and around the final third.

"We played some good football over the season but we were a little bit devoid of ideas in that front third when it came to either a final pass or a finish. As you can see, he can do both.

"He really fits the bill as a second striker or one of the two in the wide areas. So hopefully he offers versatility."

The Jets are back in training after a brief break with the start of their Asian Champions League campaign less than a month away.

Van Egmond said: "The best thing we did was have a break (at the end of the A-League season) for a few days. it gave us some time to get some new players in and the mood in the camp is good and I'm happy with preparations for the first ACL match."

The Jets boss says a line has been drawn under the disappointing A-League campaign and that everyone is delighted to have a new challenge to get their teeth into.

"As players and also ourselves (the coaching staff) we want to put a 'wrong' right as soon as possible.

"Normally you have such a big wait to the start of a new A-League season so it's great that we have this opportunity in the ACL. I think we've also seen with Adelaide and Melbourne how much of a good preparation the Champions League gives you going into an A-League season.

"This is a rebuilding phase for next year. We've still got a couple more (players) to go that we can add on for the 09/10 season," he said.

As well as Vignaroli a couple of the Jets other recent recruits were on show at training including Dutchman Donny de Groot and Nik Tsattalios.
