FRANK Farina has his eyes set on the A-League summit as his team prepares to try and topple Ernie Merrick's Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium.
The Roar coach said he was expecting Melbourne to live up to their reputation as a creative force as they look to exact revenge on the Queenslanders who took all the points the last time the teams met.
Farina said: “They like to play. They’ve got some creative players in there as well so I’m expecting an absolute belter of a game.
“Melbourne are sitting top of the league and we’re two points off them. It’s a big game, it’s important so hopefully we can win.”
Farina said the result of the match would not define the season, but said it would be a good indicator of where his team was at in terms of challenging for the title.
He said: “It’s still a long race and as we’ve seen with the results that are happening each week it’s going to be very tight.
“If you’re going to make the finals, if you’re going to be successful you’ve got to beat these teams.
“Fortunately we beat them in Melbourne but Archie Thompson comes back this week as well and they’ll be difficult.”
With Charlie Miller ruled fit to start, Farina will field the same squad that won in Wellington and Newcastle.
“Charlie will be right to start, whether or not he’ll last the game we’ll just have to wait and see.
“To be able to field the same side again is no guarantee that you’re going to play well but it’s that stability thing.
“Early on in the season that was one big problem for us, we were chopping and changing," he said.
The former Socceroos coach was hopeful that his players could ship their impressive away record back home on Saturday night.
“I feel we are playing pretty good stuff and creating chances it’s just a matter of – particularly at home – taking those chances.
“Even though we’re only two points off top, we could be top by a good margin so I’m not happy but it’s got to change but everyone’s right here, we’ve got to win at home, we’ve got to at least pick up points," he said.
