The Roar coach said: "Most tipsters have gone for Wellington and that sits fine with us.

“We’ve got to turn up and that’s what we’ll do and try to get something from the game.”

The former Socceroos coach said while it would be good to start the season with a win, it wasn’t the be all and end all.

He said: “If any of the teams don’t get off to a winning start it doesn’t mean it’s the end of the season.

“It’s always going to be tough when you go over there but we’re looking at getting something.

“If we can get something out of there it’ll be great to bring home with two home games coming up after that.”

While Phoenix have recruited well since their impressive run last season, Farina pointed to All Whites striker Shane Smeltz as the club’s biggest threat.

“He was their leading goalscorer last year. He’s sharp, he’s a handful and I like him as a player.”

Meanwhile, Roar will start with new signings Tim Smits and Sergio van Dijk in the frontline, while 'underdone' striker Reinaldo would provide an attacking option off the bench.

Farina said young defender Luke DeVere would fill the gap left by suspended captain Craig Moore.

After some outstanding Pre-Season Cup performances, the Roar coach was confident DeVere would do well alongside the recovering Josh McCloughan.

“He’s a solid defender and he’ll do a good job for us,” Farina said.
