NSW police said Farina, 42, from Sylvania blew a mid-range alcohol level in a roadside breath test on Tuesday.

A random breath testing unit was set up on The Grand Parade in Monterey when officers spotted a gold Hyundai 4WD go into a nearby car park at 1.35pm and stop.

Hurstville police highway patrol officers then approached Farina and tested him.

After giving a positive reading, he was arrested and taken to St George police station where he was found to have a PCA blood alcohol content of 0.105.

He had his licence suspended immediately and has now been ordered to face Kogarah Local Court on April 17.

The maximum penalty for driving with a mid-range alcohol level - a reading between 0.08 and 0.145 - is nine months in jail and $2200 for a first offence. If convicted, Farina will also lose his driver's licence for a year.

Former Socceroos coach Farina is due to move permanently from his home in Sylvania to Brisbane over the Easter break to be closer to his club.
