FRANK Farina will be looking for players to push their claims this weekend as he takes his depleted Brisbane Roar squad north to face Fergie's Fury.
International duty, injuries and a suspended Robbie Kruse have limited Farina's options for the squad's final match against A-League opposition before the start of the season.
However, the Roar boss said he was confident the team would be ready to face Gold Coast United in the league opener on August 8.
"You'd like to have everyone on board, obviously," he said. "I hope by August 8, we've got pretty much everyone on deck, apart from Massimo (Murdocca - broken leg)."
The late signs are promising for the Roar, with a number of players set to return to match action on Sunday and in next Wednesday's Roar Roadshow at Rochedale Rovers.
Charlie Miller (groin) and Danny Tiatto (back and hamstring) are expected to play some part against the Fury, with Michael Zullo hopeful of joining them despite suffering another knock to his injured shoulder this morning.
Josh McCloughan (groin), David Dodd and Tommy Oar (quadriceps) are possibilities to get some game time against Rochedale, while long-term injured striker Reinaldo (osteitis pubis and ankle) got a rare taste of football in a match at training this morning.
With three players in Argentina with the Australian Under-20s, trialists Bob Malcolm and Chay Hews will join Roar Youth defender Daniel Bowles in filling the squad for Roar.
"Obviously it's an opportunity for some to push their claims," Farina said.
"But as I said, we've had a few problems with niggly little injuries so hopefully we can get those players like Danny, Charlie and Michael some game time on the weekend."
Despite the setbacks, Farina said he was looking forward to the test against the Fury.
"I expect they'll be very competitive and at pretty much full strength, because it's their last hit-out as well," he said.
"The last few games have been competitive and they've been good for us.
"But August 8, as I've maintained throughout the pre-season is when it really starts for everyone, that's when the points are on the line."
Sunday's match between North Queensland Fury and Brisbane Roar kicks off at 3pm at Tony Ireland Stadium, Townsville.
