FRANK Farina admits it will be a relief to get the Gold Coast United derby out of the way in the opening round to prevent the hype spiralling out of control.
The two teams meet at Suncorp Stadium in round one and there is plenty of spice building up. Gold Coast were furious that the fixture was switched from Skilled Park (in the initial draft), Miron Bleiberg is refusing to promote the match until 24 hours before kick off and owner Clive Palmer says he isn't even going to turn up.
Palmer has also encouraged Gold Coast supporters to watch the match on television. Roar boss Farina admits he just wants to get the game played and then move on.
He said: "It's not just the talk of the town, it's the talk of the FFA. They're more hyped up about it than anyone else.
"For me it's another game, it's a good game, a first real derby but I'm just glad it's the first game because if we have to wait six or seven games for it to come around the hype would just keep building and building.
"Let's get it over with and let's get on with a run."
Meanwhile, Roar CEO Peter McLennan doesn't believe Palmer will carry out his threat to stay away and says Gold Coast's players will suffer if fans don't turn out either.
He told the Courier Mail: "With his statements encouraging Gold Coast fans to stay away, I actually feel sorry for the Gold Coast players. If their fans do stay away, they'll have to play their inaugural A-League match in a hostile environment with no support."
