THE HYUNDAI A-League will take the game out to the regions with five 'community' clashes confirmed today by Football Federation Australia.
The five matches in Morwell, Bathurst, Dunedin, Campbelltown and Launceston, come as Australian football tries to take the league to new frontiers.
Along with the announcement of the community games, Wellington Phoenix will also take a match to Eden Park in Auckland.
And in another fixture change, the FFA confirmed Gold Coast United have moved their Friday night Week 6 home match against Adelaide to Hindmarsh Stadium.
“This is a very exciting day for football in Australia and New Zealand as the game spreads its wings and takes the Hyundai A-League to fresh, regional markets while also reaching out to our large and vociferous football community,” said Head of Hyundai A-League Lyall Gorman.
“For the first time we take an official Hyundai A-League match to five fantastic areas where the community has been calling out for a taste of the best live domestic football this country has to offer.
“FFA this year has worked tirelessly in preparing a fixture schedule that offers a wide range of positives for our football loving community and these fixtures should prove another exciting proposition for season seven.
"Football is the game of the Australian people. It is played and supported by more people than any other code, not just in metropolitan Australia but in the regions and suburbs.
“This important innovation to the Hyundai A-League draw gives all Australians the opportunity to say, whether they live in a big city or a smaller town, We Are Football."
