After an enforced absence, FourFourTwo's Team of the Week is back - unlike Tom Rogic. Who made the cut...?
GK: Mark Birighitti
In what was a highly entertaining encounter between two depleted rivals, Birighitti stood out once more with a number of acrobatic saves throughout. Will be part of the next crop of Australian talent that makes a move overseas.
RB: Diogo Ferreira
In a Victory side that were largely below par over in Perth, Diogo stood out with his well-balanced performance at right back. Slowly but surely making the position his own.
LB: Sam Gallaway
A performance beyond his years from the young left-back. Marshalled his own wing very well, and stepped in to cover when needed, as well as providing attacking impetus on the Jets attacks down the left.
CB: Nikolai Topor-Stanley
Amongst the most consistent players in a team playing consistently well. Surely a surprise to Sydney, Perth and Newcastle fans who all suffered through his wild inconsistencies for years. Was at his imposing best against Roar, and frustrated Berisha and the other Roar attackers with timely tackles and clearances.
CB: Trent Sainsbury
A seeming ever-present in these teams now, Sainsbury is not just a model of consistency, he is a model of excellence. Only a matter of time before these qualities see him win a move overseas. Held off Heskey and friends impeccably well in a hard fought derby draw.
CAM: Alessandro Del Piero
Let's just put it this way. The best individual performance ever in the A-League. Four outstanding goals, a perfect assist, and a thumping home win to boot. The man is absolutely on fire - what this week showed was how well he can do with a little bit of help from other talented players.
CM: Jason Culina
Spraying passes around the field like in his early A-League days with Gold Coast United, Culina was a driving force in the 7-1 win over the Phoenix. He and Joel Griffiths provided the attacking help Alessandro had needed since Round 1 and it paid dividends on the scoresheet.
CM: Ruben Zadkovich
The rest of the league has stopped laughing at "Row Z-kovich" as the Jets midfielder has worked exceptionally hard to keep the Jets competitive. At times this season it's been a lonely job, but at Bluetongue on Saturday he was a standout in a strong team performance.
RW: Youssouf Hersi
As he did in his first appearance at Suncorp, Hersi destroyed all resistance down his wing , scoring the winner this time to cap off a marvellous performance. Looked likely to jump into the travelling RBB in celebration - obviously has a strong bond with his supporters.
ST: Joel Griffiths
Already making a huge contribution to turning Sydney FC's season around, and he's only played one game. Took the pressure off Del Piero going forward, giving the Italian legend more space to work his magic - and worked some of his own, too. Has obviously learned quite a bit from playing with Didier Drogba and Nicholas Anelka at Shenhua.
LW: Richard Garcia
The mastermind behind Melbourne Heart's surprising win over Adelaide on Friday night. The Socceroo winger has been the Heart's best all season, and he again set the pace, scoring the sealer in an impressive team display.
Coach: Frank Farina
Has made the right moves already for Sydney FC, and turned a disunited, disinterested rabble into a competitive - if not finals-ready - outfit. Fitness, motivation and skill levels (thanks, Culina and Griffiths) are all up from the start of the season. Let's see how well the team progresses as we head towards the pointy end.
Referee: Lucien Laverdure
In another poor weekend for referees, Laverdure was by far the standout whistleblower. A-League fans across the country were wondering why they couldn't just fly this guy around to games, rather than suffer sub-standard officials, in a weekend where the A-League's best were away with other commitments.
