BILLED AS… The final straw for SOMETHING to happen for Perth Glory. Can they finally score a goal? Or even concede one?
IN REALITY… Perth did show they have goals in them, but then forgot how to keep the defences watertight like they’ve done so well in the past three weeks. The Members Equity Stadium crowd showed their displeasure too. For the Roar, Tiatto showed what he can deliver and they looked fairly well-drilled for most of it.
THE GOOD… Both Ron Smith and Frank Farina should have both seen where their true strengths are after the encounter. For Smith, Harnwell’s presence upfront can’t be ignored. Farina will want to ensue he gets the same big performances from Tiatto consistently – who showed he’s still got it.
THE BAD… Mate Dragicevic and Reinaldo’s finishing was exactly that. We want these imports to show us the way... show us how to score goals and dominate defences. Tonight, all we were shown from this pair is how to hoof a ball to row Z.
THE UGLY… Marcinho's free kicks can’t be described any other way. We keep hearing how good he is at them, so seeing him miss the target by metres is just as bad as watching a local D-Grade comp.
THEY SAID WHAT… “My goal was just lucky. It just fell so you don’t have to think about those, you just hit them. You have to be lucky in these games and to come all this way and get a result is brilliant. It’s a tough trip and we haven’t won yet this season so it’s good to get one on the scoreboard.” Matt McKay plays it cool after knocking in the winner.
THE FALLOUT… It’s a little harsh on Ron Smith but the fans will be wanting answers this week. This was Glory’s first loss of the season, but after just one goal scored in four games, things may get a little tense in the west. Roar has now settled into third spot and they’ll be stoked, seeing all the want to do is break their hoodoo and make the Finals Series for the first time.
