PERTH Glory defender Hayden Foxe will miss his team's opening game against Adelaide United this weekend but a long term absence has been ruled out.
A bruised foot is the problem but fears he could miss a large chunk of the season have been allayed with X-rays ruling out a break.
Foxe received a kick to his foot in round two of the pre-season cup against Melbourne at Members Equity Stadium and has subsequently felt pain when running.
Glory medical staff have taken a cautious approach with the central defender giving him time to rest and expect he’ll be ready to return to action sooner rather than later.
Coach Dave Mitchell said: "We've had X-rays on it and they showed it was okay but he's just feeling a bit of pain when he's running on it so we want to be cautious about it.
"I'd rather err on the side of caution than trying to play him and make it worse and he's out for an extended period.
“While Foxey is disappointed he won’t be there for the first couple of rounds he remains upbeat and is still a positive influence in the change rooms and is looking forward to being back on the pitch very soon."
Glory will call on their added depth this season with defenders Jamie Coyne and Dino Djulbic two contenders to partner David Tarka in the centre of defence.
