The Fury created two fine goals to clinch the three points against the A-League champions in front of just over 5,000 fans in Townsville.

Chris Grossman put North Queensland ahead on 65 minutes after good lead-up work by Chris Payne, before the Sky Blues equalised on 82 minutes.

But the Fury regained their lead barely a minute lead, with Payne involved again working a nice one-two with Dyron Daal for the winner.

Straka told Fox Sports after the game: "I'm very happy.

"We have seen Sydney with the game against Victory, I said to the boys if we play wide, get in good positions, triangles, one-twos (we can score) and I think it worked very well."

Straka added: "It was so important in the first game in Perth, we were two times behind and we come back, and today is an excellent win.

"Congratulations for my players. They were really tough and I'm very proud of my team."

North Queensland forward David Williams hailed the Czech boss who he believes has instilled plenty of belief in the Fury squad.

"We've got a coach who gives us confidence," he said. "We got three points, so you can't ask for anything more."

Isaka Cernak was impressive again in midfield for the Fury and Williams acknowledged his efforts along with Payne for his part in the goals.

"He's (Cernak) doing excellent for us, same as Chris Payne, but the whole team all round did a great shift today and I'm very proud to be part of this team and be in this squad.

"We've come a long way. But with Frankie (Straka), the confidence and what he brings to the squad is unbelievable.

"The group of players we've got is well-disciplined and it's just up from here."
