Fred, full name Helbert Frederico Carreiro da Silva, was a huge success in Ernie Merrick’s all-conquering A-League outfit last season.

His skills helped Melbourne end the campaign as both Premiers and Champions.

But the player's success brought temptation and the 27-year-old, voted import of the year by FourFourTwo readers, was lured away from Victory to Major League Soccer club DC United in America.

Victory could not compete financially with the package on the table and Fred was gone. He made his debut for DC United in early April in the CONCACAF Champions Cup but struggled to find form in the States.

However, there has been recent speculation that the man who helped destroy Adelaide United in last year’s grand final could be headed back Down Under with a possible move to Suncorp Stadium.

But a club spokesman had a one word response when quizzed on the matter today by au.fourfourtwo.com: "Nonsense."

Roar would have to make room on its import roster and no-one appears to be heading for the Suncorp exit.

However, Frank Farina’s squad is not yet complete ahead of the new season with further additions not ruled out ahead of the big kick off.
