AS possibly their last game ever rolls around, North Queensland have described their season as disappointing but have the chance to finish on a high with a win against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday.
Reflecting on their season, departing assistant coach Stuart McLaren was disappointed that they had not only missed out on the finals but the club's future was still uncertain.
"I think we're all quite upset that the season has come to a close because we're nowhere near where we wanted to be in terms of our league position and obviously with the club's future still up in the air," McLaren said.
Despite the disappointment, McLaren wanted his team to finish the season with a win and continue their competitive form from their last game against the Brisbane.
"Needless to say we're going to focus on the match and want to finish on a high with a good performance again, back up what we did against Brisbane on Tuesday and hopefully it will be enough to get a result," he said.
Being able to still shape the finals during the clash, McLaren said that would serve as extra motivation to get the win.
"It would be nice to finish with some kind of result, be it a draw or a win against Wellington but also we know they are going to be determined knowing that they need that point just to make sure that they're in the finals," he said.
Fury will be without goalkeeper Justin Pasfield due to suspension but McLaren believes stand in goal keeper Sebastian Usai is up for the job.
"I'm sure he's obviously looking forward to getting back in there. He enjoyed the couple of games he played before and I thought he did very well so hopefully he can help the team keep a clean sheet," he said.
North Queensland will be boosted by the inclusion of Gareth Edds and Lorenzo Sipi in the squad and David Williams is expected to be fit after recovering from a virus.
North Queensland Fury take on Wellington Phoenix this Sunday at Westpac Stadium at 3pm (AEDT Time).
