ADELAIDE United could be third club in a matter of days to deny Sydney FC their first win of the season in week nine of the A-League while Perth Glory try to end a three-game losing run.
Glory have lost three games on the trot, two on the road, and will want to remain in the top six with a win against a team that has an outstanding record at nib Stadium but is winless in its last eight road trips.
Roar have collected 16 of a possible 22 points at the venue and returned to form with a 4-0 hammering of Melbourne Heart in week eight.
Title favourite Adelaide United travel to Sydney Football Stadium for the second time in the space of a month, following on from their 3-1 defeat of the Sky Blues in early September.
Striker Sergio van Dijk scored two of his season’s four goals that night, the other brace coming last week against Glory.
Sydney have only lost to Adelaide twice at their home venue, but face an irresistible Reds outfit that remains unbeaten this season.
Wellington Phoenix will continue to search for a first away victory when it travels to the Gold Coast in what is likely to be a far cry from the wet 3-3 draw in New Zealand in the second week.
Phoenix have never lost to United, likewise at Skilled Park, recording a win and a draw in two visits to the venue.
United fought back from a goal down to snatch a point at Sydney last week, but importantly, it was striker Bruce Djite who scored his first goal for his new club.
Central Coast return from their week off to play host to North Queensland Fury. The Mariners sit in third and will compete against a Fury side returning from consecutive road trips.
The first Melbourne derby, scheduled as a week nine clash, has been postponed to October 8.
Week off: Newcastle Jets
Gold Hoodoo?
United have never beaten Wellington, registering two losses and two draws.
Skilled Phoenix
Wellington have won once and recorded a draw in their two trips to Skilled Park.
Sharpshooting van Dijk
Sergio van Dijk has scored 29 goals in 57 A-League games (0.51 per game), putting him in second spot behind only Shane Smeltz (0.63 goals per game) for highest goals per game ratio, excluding players with less than 10 goals.
3rd – Archie Thompson (49 goals at 0.48pg), 4th – Eugene Dadi (15 in 32) and Joel Griffiths (28 in 60) (0.47)
Record-breaking Reds
If Adelaide don’t lose to Sydney, it will create the second longest run of undefeated matches in the A-League, extending their run to 11. The longest streak is 12, set by the Mariners during 2005-06.
No Roar on the Road
Brisbane have lost eight-straight matches on the road, winless since their 2-0 victory over Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium in November 2009.
All Draw?
Two of the three games between the Mariners and Fury have ended in draws, including both that were played at Bluetongue Stadium.
Roar but no Glory
Brisbane have a stunning record against Perth – nine wins, three draws and three losses.
Banking on Brisbane
Roar have won five of their eight visits to nib Stadium.
Bluetongue Fortress…
The Mariners are aiming for a fourth consecutive home win. It would equal the club’s record winning streak at home.
Sky Blue?
Sydney have won seven of 10 against Adelaide at home, but lost in their last meeting a month ago.
Slow starts, finishing with a Fury
North Queensland have scored five of their 11 goals in the final quarter of an hour.
