In exchange for free entry to the game, supporters will be asked to make a donation, however big or small, to bring some measure of comfort to those who have been affected by the ongoing flood disaster in the hope that it will assist them in rebuilding their lives as the lengthy clean up begins.

The entire stadium will be open to all fans for what is sure to be an emotional day.

On a weekend when football across the country will come together to show their support for the victims of the flood crisis Gold Coast United CEO Clive Mensink said it was a time for reflection, generosity and community spirit.

"What we have witnessed recently in Queensland is almost beyond belief and I'm sure everyone who has been fortunate enough to escape being affected by these floods feels deeply for those who have," Mensink said.

He continued: "Mr Palmer's gesture in opening Skilled Park for free next weekend when we play Newcastle Jets is one of support for those who have lost loved ones, friends, property or precious belongings in this disaster and we are urging everyone to come along and be part of this day.

"By showing up in numbers like they did when we played the Mariners in December, the community can send a message to the victims of the flood disaster that we are all thinking of them.

"We ask that everyone who takes up this offer of free entry make a donation once inside the stadium so we can assist with the urgent financial support required at this time of need for so many of our fellow Queenslanders.

"Whether it is a gold coin donation or a more substantial contribution, it all counts and will all help.

"Here on the Gold Coast, we were very fortunate to escape from the effects of the flooding and this is a great way for our community to lend a helping hand and show the spirit for which Queenslanders are renowned.

"For those who have been affected by the floods and are able to make it to the game, please come along and enjoy some free entertainment on us.

"We hope that in some small way this will provide you with some light relief from the trauma you have experienced recently."

Gold Coast United vice-captain Michael Thwaite said he felt privileged that he and his teammates could be part of the relief effort.

"All of us have been shocked and saddened from what we have seen and some of the stories we have heard - it's heartbreaking and very grounding," Thwaite said.

"For sport to be able to play a part in helping people during this terrible time is fantastic and if we can help to put a few smiles back on people's faces and raise some money then we will all be delighted about that.

"We want as many people as possible to come to the game, enjoy some free entertainment and leave a legacy that will help those who need it."
