Dadi was invited to participate in the Glory’s recent three match tour of China and impressed coach Dave Mitchell with his predatory instinct in front of goal.

“He showed that he was very capable up front and will be a player that can score goals and just as importantly bring others into the game to increase our attacking options this season,” Mitchell said.

The 34 year old has enjoyed a long career in Europe including a spell with Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen in 2001/02. Dadi spent a week in Perth late last year but was denied an opportunity to join the Glory when his former club, Hapoel Acre in Israel, failed to release him during the transfer window.

Glory coaching staff maintained contact with the striker during the past four months and are delighted to have a player of Dadi’s skill and experience injected into the club’s attack.

“I have great confidence that he will be a significant contributor to our squad,” Mitchell said.

“We showed at times last season that we could score quality goals but to take the team forward we need to have other avenues to goal and I believe Eugene will give us that.

“He’s a solid professional footballer who has a strong desire to perform well in the A-League and that’s the sort of player I want in the squad. I think he’ll be a big hit with the Glory fans this season,” added Mitchell.

Dadi will arrive in Western Australia in time to begin pre-season training with his new team mates in early May.

Meanwhile the club have re-signed Jimmy Downey until the end of the 2009/10 season.

Already contracted this season, the new deal will ensure Downey remains in Perth for the at least the next two campaigns.

Downey burst onto the national football scene in 2007/08 to play 17 matches for Glory. His blistering pace was more than a handful for opposition sides and the 20 year old is excited about what the future holds in Perth.

“It wasn’t a hard decision for me to extend my contract with Perth because I think the next few seasons will be big for the club and I want to be a part of that,” Downey said.

“I can really see myself developing under Dave Mitchell and rest of the coaching staff we have here. I know I have a lot more to offer the club and I will be doing everything I can to repay the faith they have shown in me,” said Downey.

Downey quickly adapted to top flight football following his recruitment from the Australian Institute of Sport and left no doubt in the minds of Glory coaching staff that he has a long career ahead.

“It’s fantastic to have Jimmy commit to the club for the longer term,” said Mitchell.

“He sees the great potential we have in Perth and in turn we see a player that will definitely play an important part in bringing success to the west,” Mitchell added.

Downey showed his versatility in a number of positions during the season and his tenacity and work ethic didn’t go unrecognised as he finished in the top five in the club’s ‘Most Glorious Player’ count.

“Perth is a great place to live and there is a great culture at the club so I can’t think of a better place to keep learning and hopefully I can contribute to some successful times ahead,” Downey said.
